Hugo Johnson, later known as Hugo Hammer Hands, was born in Chicago, USA, in 2011. From birth, Hugo faced enormous challenges: he was born without arms. Doctors told his parents, Rebecca and Michael, that he might not survive without urgent surgery to stabilise his fragile health.
Thanks to pioneering medical care, Hugo survived — and from that moment on, he was determined not to let anything stop him.
As he grew, Hugo learned to do things others thought impossible: typing with his feet, painting with his toes, and even playing video games better than kids with two hands. But still, bullies at school targeted him. They saw only what he didn’t have — not what he was capable of.
Moving to Shetland
When Hugo was ten, his father Michael was offered work in Shetland on a cutting-edge robotics project linked to renewable energy. For the Johnson family, the move was both a fresh start and a chance to give Hugo the quiet, supportive environment he needed to thrive.
