Gary the Puffin – Character Biography
Full name: Gary “the Super Puffin”
Date of Birth: 12 June 2015
Place of Birth: Out Skerries, Shetland Islands
Parents: Unknown (hatched in a cliffside burrow overlooking the sea)
Early Life
Gary was born on the rugged cliffs of Out Skerries, Shetland, in 2015. Like most puffins, he spent his early days learning to fly, dive, and carry sand eels back to his burrow. But Gary was different. While other puffins stuck with their flocks, Gary was curious about humans. He loved watching children play, swooping low over fishing boats, and sometimes even sneaking chips from the harbour.
Locals joked about “that cheeky puffin with personality” — not knowing that Gary’s story was only just beginning.
Meeting Gravity Guru
When Arjun Singh (later known as Gravity Guru) moved to Shetland with his family, he often wheeled to the cliffs to watch the seabirds. Unlike the others, Gary didn’t fly away. Instead, he waddled right up to Arjun’s chair, tilted his head, and stared with bright curiosity.
From that day on, the two were inseparable. Gary would perch on Arjun’s shoulder, follow him through town, and even wait outside school.
Gaining Powers
The day Arjun discovered his healing and gravity-bending powers, something extraordinary happened. As Arjun’s energy rippled out into the world, Gary was caught in its glow. The little puffin shimmered, squawked, and suddenly lifted off the ground with wings stronger than ever before.
Gary had become Super Puffin. Now he could fly faster, dive deeper, and carry messages across great distances. Even more astonishing, Arjun realised he could speak with Gary, their bond allowing them to communicate like true friends.
The Extraordinary Eight
Though not officially one of the Extraordinary Eight, Gary quickly became their unofficial ninth member. His sharp eyes spotted danger from afar, his fearless dives saved the team more than once, and his comical personality often broke the tension when things got tough.
The team called him “The Wings of Shetland” — but to Arjun, he would always just be Gary, his first true friend on the islands.
Legacy and Message
Gary’s story reminds children that heroes can come in all shapes and sizes — even a puffin with a big heart and bigger wings. His friendship with Gravity Guru shows the power of loyalty, laughter, and standing by the people (or puffins) you love.
